CoventryCreates
A digital exhibition of creative work by local artists, each an interpretation of academic research from Coventry University and University of Warwick. Building on last year’s show created during the lockdown, there are 12 new projects for 2021, each aiming to change how we perceive and experience our worlds.
The collaborative commissions this year explore how Covid-19 has impacted hospice care, what museum closures mean to communities, whether artificial intelligence can create art, how we can promote respectful interactions around names, what an ideal society looks like for women of colour, and more.
Coventry Creates is part of the ongoing work by Coventry and Warwick universities in the lead up to and during the City of Culture. The University Partnership has funded over 60 creative research projects, involving many diverse Coventry organisations and local communities. The University of Warwick and Coventry University are both principal partners of Coventry UK City of Culture 2021.
In 2021, Coventry’s City of Culture year, Coventry Creates has been updated with 12 exciting new projects thanks to funding from Arts Council England. Coventry Creates has supported artists and researchers with 30 collaborative projects to create artistic responses to research from the social sciences, arts, science and medicine from across both the city’s universities.
The 2020 and 2021 projects are thanks to all of our funders for their support with this project, without which Coventry Creates would not be possible. The initial 2020 project was jointly funded by Coventry University and the University of Warwick as part of the City of Culture University Partnership.
For the 2020 projects, the University of Warwick would like to further thank the following sources;
ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (reference ES/T502054/1).

University of Warwick Public Engagement Team Fund.
ESRC Festival of Social Science
University of Warwick Connecting Cultures Global Research Priority Fund 2019/2020

Over the last 2 years, Coventry Creates, provided up to £2,250 funding to the chosen projects so that they could produce artwork for this collaborative digital exhibition, as part of the University Partnership’s activities during UK City of Culture 2021.
The exhibition will be hosted until December 2022. The collaboration between The University of Warwick and Coventry University follows a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities that provides them with new opportunities to work together to the benefit of arts and culture throughout the region.
